April 6, 2022 Elizabeth Tollis
The Fallacies of Time Management with Mark Bowers
Elizabeth Tollis

Mark Bowers’ mission is to aid do-gooders in doing more good. Specifically, he helps leaders make a distinctive, sustainable, and measurable social impact. Mark has over 30 years in leadership and management of government, business, and information technology efforts including 20 years as a Navy submarine officer. After leaving the corporate workforce, Mark established Lighthouse One to leverage his passions in strategic planning, coaching, and performance improvement for the benefit of mission-focused organizations. Mark is a volunteer global leader for the International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI). His current “labor of love” is as founder and executive director of the Professional Development Consortium of Hampton Roads which provides free and low-cost leadership education for membership associations.

Some Time-worthy Notes:

As a small business coach and consultant, I have built my business on the idea that entrepreneurship impacts communities and the world. I work with small business owners to increase their impact, build businesses for greater purposes, hone their focus, and sort out what exactly they should be focusing on. With the members in my Full Focus Entrepreneur Program, I dive into a different key area of entrepreneurship each month to bring them EXACTLY and ONLY what they need to succeed in that area. The Podcast is a chance for me to bring in an outside expert on that topic.

If you want to hear, watch, read, and learn more about Entrepreneurship, Focus, and Living a life of impact I invite you to check out Full Focus Entrepreneur where I coach small business owners to be more effective, more organized, more profitable, and more impactful. Sign up for The Full Focus App to receive access to all my free resources.

If you are interested in listening to more of me talking to myself and others please check out The Emerald Office where all the episodes of all of my podcasts can be found.

A special thank you to Eric Tollis who made this sweet backtrack and to Maria Carias for the beautiful art that graces this Podcast. All of Maria's art can be found on her Instagram. She kinda rocks right?

2022 is over as far as I am concerned, but before we fully leave it in the dust, here is a journaling exercise about 2023 to bridge the gap. If you answer each of these questions (as briefly or fully as you would like), you will enter 2023 with more clarity, direction, and, most importantly, perspective.

There are two types of people, or rather, people can be put into one of two categories. In one group, there are the people who primarily believe that things happen to them, that their fate is inherently out of their control, that luck, circumstance, and the actions of others dictate the way their life is going to play out. In contrast, an individual with an internal locus of control believes that they have the agency, that it is their actions and decisions that change their life. Essentially, those with an internal locus of control believe that they have the power to drive their own destiny. We all exist on a spectrum of how much weight we put on each perspective.
